Dear Sir/Madam,

I trust this letter finds you well. I am writing to respectfully request your guidance and formal permission regarding the appropriate and dignified use of Vatican symbols, imagery, and flag colors on a project website for a fictional movie project entitled "God Bless Eurovision." This film envisions the Vatican’s entry into the Eurovision Song Contest in 2029, followed by a victory and the hosting of the 2030 event. It is our hope that this project will shine a positive light on the role of faith in modern society, while bringing its message closer to younger audiences through the universal medium of music.

At this time, I am seeking permission solely for the use of these symbols and imagery on the project’s website, which will include general information about the project and references to the Vatican’s fictional participation in the film. Should the project proceed to actual production, we will seek further permissions for any broader use of Vatican symbols in the movie itself.

Central to the narrative is a song titled "The Joy of Mary," which represents the Vatican’s fictional winning entry in 2029. It is a hymn of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrating her role as a guiding light in times of darkness. Below is an excerpt from the song, provided in both English and Latin:

English:
"Oh Mary, full of grace and light,
Guide us through the darkest night,
Let your love forever be,
A beacon for all to see."

Latin:
"Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Duc nos per noctem obscuram,
Amorem tuum sit semper,
Lux omnibus ad videndum."

The 2030 contest, under the theme "Maintain Faith," is envisioned as a reflection of the Church’s timeless message of hope and unity. Our intention is to respectfully incorporate Vatican symbols on the project website in a way that highlights the Church's role in bringing peace and unity to the world. We would greatly appreciate your guidance on how to proceed with the use of these elements.

In light of recent controversies where religious symbolism has been misrepresented in global events, I wish to make clear that this project is crafted with the utmost respect for the Church and its traditions. Raised in an evangelical Christian family, I personally sympathize with the Church’s objection to irreverent depictions, such as those seen at the Paris Olympics. My goal with this film is to foster an appreciation for faith, and to contribute positively to the conversation around religion in contemporary culture.

Furthermore, while the primary focus is on the Vatican’s role, the project also acknowledges the diverse religious backgrounds of Eurovision viewers, including those of Jewish and Islamic faith. We aim to promote inclusivity and understanding across all faiths, guided by the Church’s example of outreach and compassion.

The project includes the use of AI-assisted tools under human supervision, especially in the creation of text, music compositions, and visual designs. As part of this, I have attached an AI-generated logo for the fictional 2030 Eurovision event, symbolizing the theme of faith and unity. Additionally, I will be seeking similar permissions from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) concerning the use of Eurovision symbols, although I place particular importance on seeking the Church’s blessing regarding the use of Vatican imagery.

I want to mention that I particularly appreciated reading the Holy Father Leo XIV's address to the College of Cardinals on May 10, 2025:

In our own day, the Church offers to everyone the treasury of her social teaching in response to another industrial revolution and to developments in the field of artificial intelligence that pose new challenges for the defence of human dignity, justice and labour.

To help meeting those challenges, one of which being the problem of telling the difference between the produce of artificial intelligence and a true human mind, I find guidance in 1 Corinthians 13:1:

If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don’t love, I’m nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate.

Finally, I respectfully request permission to publish your response to this request on our project website, as transparency is important to us. If necessary, we are also prepared to include a disclaimer clarifying that the Church does not officially endorse or sponsor the project, to ensure clarity for our audience.

Thank you sincerely for your time and consideration. I remain at your disposal for any further information you may require, and I look forward to your guidance in moving forward.

Yours faithfully,
